Biography
Ethan Jacobs is known for his communicative singing style and collaborative approach, bringing warmth and clarity to a wide range of repertoire. Originally from London, he is currently in the second year of his Master’s degree at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, where he studies with Christopher Turner as a scholarship holder. He previously completed his undergraduate studies at the Royal Northern College of Music.
Ethan’s operatic experience reflects his versatility as a performer, spanning Mozart and Britten through to Wagner and Verdi. He has performed roles including Don Basilio and Don Curzio (Le Nozze di Figaro, Mozart), Mr Upfold (Albert Herring, Britten), and Bill (A Hand of Bridge, Barber).

He additionally sung in the chorus for Die Fledermaus (Strauss). In summer 2025, he made his professional debut with Opera Holland Park, appearing in the choruses of Die fliegende Holländer (Wagner), the company’s first Wagner production, and their award-winning production of La Traviata (Verdi). Collaborative music-making has been central to his development, with these large-scale productions providing opportunities to work closely with a range of artists and creative teams.
This season, Ethan looks forward to playing the titular role of Orphée in Orphée aux Enfers (Offenbach), returning to the Opera Holland Park chorus for La Fanciulla del West (Puccini) and a staged concert version of Turandot (Puccini). He will also make his professional principal role debut as Sellem in The Rakes Progress (Stravinsky) with British Youth Opera this summer.
On the concert platform, Ethan has appeared as a soloist in works including Haydn’s St Nicholas Mass, Mozart’s Solemn Vespers, Handel’s Messiah, and Bob Chilcott’s Requiem. He also took part in an award-winning recording and concert of Verdi’s original 1857 version of Simon Boccanegra with Sir Mark Elder, the Opera North Chorus, Opera Rara, and the Hallé Orchestra at the Bridgewater Hall.
Alongside his performing career, Ethan has developed a strong interest in arts administration. He serves as Lead Student Representative at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, a position that involves advocating for students within the institution and representing the Conservatoire nationally and internationally. This role has strengthened his skills in communication, organisation, and leadership, adding another valuable dimension to his professional work. He also works as a recording engineer and audiovisual producer with his twin brother in their award winning business, providing professional recording services for performers. Together, they form a strong creative partnership that combines shared musical understanding with technical skill.
